PAGE 2 OF THE VERY FIRST ISSUE OF CAMPFIRE TALES
In the beginning, Campfire Tales had no pictures.  Just the story.  Keep in mind this story was written in 1985.  The trails have changed a lot since that time.

This issue includes
Tincup Pass, Taylor Pass, Independence Pass and Mosquito Pass.

THE BEGINNING -  ANOTHER OF THE MANY ADVENTURES OF PASS PATROL

“IT Patrol Bronco to Nissan leader,” crackled the Saturday morning CB call.  “Bob. Are you sure we’re going the right way?”

Those words started off the first four-wheel-drive adventure of the Denver IT PATROL.  All the participants were employees of Intelogic Trace referred to as IT.  Bob Sowell and his son, Kenny, led the way in a 4x4 Nissan pickup.  Bob is the CSE for Grand Junction, CO.

“Breaker C.J. Your magnetic antenna fell off.”  The Jeep CJ was driven by Rick Wildman, remote CSE from Colorado Springs.  His wife, Kathy, and daughter, Shonda, ere crammed in beside him.

“Hey Bronco!  You can’t fit between those two trees!”

“C-R-U-N-C-H!”  The district manager, Larry Heck, and his two sons, Larry and Danny, were poking along in a Ford Bronco behind the C.J.  Also in the Bronco, was John Steddom, a former employee of IT.

“Breaker for the 4Runner.  We know that thing’s new, but you can’t stop to wash it in every stream we cross.”  Jim Hinson, CSE from Fort Collins, was following the group in his brand new Toyota 4Runner.  His wife, Billy, and son, Scott, were riding with him.

“Gentlemen.  Lock in your hubs.”

No one in the group really cared if they were on the right trail or not, but the question seemed appropriate considering the narrow, rocky path they turned onto just outside the ghost town of St. Elmo, Colorado.
