PAGE 3 OF THE MARCH 1995 ISSUE OF PASS PATROL CAMPFIRE TALES
Keep in mind, the stories here were written in 1995.  A lot has changed.

Miscellaneous  Campfire Tales - March 1995

When a vehicle is sideways in the road, the objective is to get it back in line with the road.  To do that, select an anchor point that pulls the vehicle down the road, not toward the edge.  Do not use an anchor point on the cliff side of the road or you may be trying to explain to the insurance company why you deliberately pulled your vehicle over a cliff.

While winching, apply just enough gas pedal to torque the tires, but not enough to spin them.  The combination of the winch pulling and vehicle torqued will get the job done with least amount of stress on the tree and on the vehicle.

Of course, there is another way to handle this situation and that is to not get in it in the first place.  This one experience was enough snow for us.  We turned the vehicles around and went back to the Subway for some cookies.

To get to the Spring Creek Road, take exit 234 off I-70.  Follow I-70 service road west until it goes under I-70.  Turn left on Alvarado.  Cross the creek and make an immediate left on the dirt road.

Spring Creek Family Fun Trail
The Spring Creek Trail is also referred to as the Family Fun Trail.  It is a major challenge for any driver in a vehicle that has not been modified.
