PAGE 1 OF THE MARCH 1995 ISSUE OF PASS PATROL CAMPFIRE TALES
Keep in mind, the stories here were written in 1995.  A lot has changed.

Miscellaneous  Campfire Tales - March 1995

I won’t get stuck.  I have BFGs.

Sureshot was showing off a little and trying to impress his girlfriend with his finely tuned 4Wheeling skills by going up FSR175 to Yankee Hill.

(Don’t worry Sureshot.  I’m not going to tell them how you got stuck in a six foot snow drift on another trip and had to winch through in both directions while she patiently sat in the car tapping her fingers on the dash and mumbling something about how you shouldn’t believe everything Outlaw says.)

He popped over a hill and stopped to watch a pickup truck trying to get through a foot of snow on an uphill climb.  The truck charged in, came to a spinning stop, backed up, and charged in again.  That process was repeated several times before the driver gave up and backed up beside Sureshot.

“Snow’s just too deep,” the driver of the truck said with a smile.

“Think I’ll give it a try,” Sureshot responded.

“We’ll wait here and pull you out when you get stuck,” the driver snickered.

“I won’t get stuck.  I’ve got BFG All Terrain T/As.  Outlaw says a foot of snow is child’s play for those tires.”

“Don’t know no, Outlaw,” he laughed.  “But if your’re gonna bust through that, better get a good run at it.”

“Okay.”  Sureshot floored his truck and charged toward the snow.  Just before reaching the snow, he slammed on the brakes and stopped.  The guys in the truck started laughing and pointing.  They thought he chickened out.

Sureshot shifted into low and smiled at his girlfriend.  “Watch their eyes when I crawl through this without spinning a tire.”

“That would be impressive,” she commented.

To himself, Sureshot thought, “Outlaw.  This better work.”

As expected, his 4x4 strolled through the snow and up the hill to the other side of the drift.

“Did their eyes pop out,” Sureshot asked with smug grin.

“I couldn’t see their eyes but they’re not laughing any longer.”

To get to Yankee Hill Road, take Forest Service Road 175 off Fall River Road.  Fall River Road is exit 238 off I-70 past Idaho Springs.
